Founded in 2010, NSYSU CJS started and promoted its nascent academic career by holding its first international conference “Japanese Society in East Asia.” Six year later, CJS has held 13 international conferences, along with 5 to 10 seminars every year featured with Japan studies scholars from Taiwan and from the rest of the world. The themes have covered politics, economics, society, culture, laws, etc. CJS has also been home of scholars from prestigious universities and research institutes such as University of Tokyo, Waseda University, Keio University, etc. The purpose of CJS has been and is to include Taiwanese scholars specialized in Japan studies, e.g. Prof. Yang Chun-Chih of National University of Kaohsiung, Prof. Wu Ming-Shang of I-Shou University, Prof. Lin Wen-Pin of Chia Nan University of Pharmacy & Science, etc., and to open the new window of knowledge for students of NSYSU College of Social Sciences. Six years since its birth, the academic strength of CJS has won its reputation and popularity highly recognized by scholars and researchers in Taiwan and from the world.

Since May 2014, then-Chair of TSJS Prof. Bih-Jaw Lin assigned the TSJS Secretariat affairs to NSYSU CJS, and CJS started reviewing the institutions of TSJS and its membership, recruiting new members, renewing database, and constructing its official website. By the official assignment of the new Chair of the TSJS, Prof. Wen-Cheng Lin, elected by the new Board of the TSJS on Dec. 13, 2014, CJS then has been formally made the TSJS Secretariat. The CJS has then devoted to its commitment to promote Japan studies in Taiwan, to accommodate the cooperative platform of scholars and researchers in Taiwan and from the rest of the world, to jointly construct the academic community of Japan studies around the world, and to enhance the opportunities of cross-border cooperation and research.
